Sponsorship Letter:
Dear Wells High School Supporter,
My name is Carla Boner and I am writing to you as the Drama Club co-Advisor at Wells High School. You may be familiar with my husband Lyle Boner, who has been running the Wells High School Drama Club for several years. Last year's Drama production of Puss in Boots that was performed during the 1st Annual WHS Fine Arts Night was a huge success. Students that attended last year wanted to join in on the fun, so we have had a boost in membership. With more students we find ourselves wanting to provide more opportunities. This spring we discovered Regional and State competitions for Drama & Theater. We took 11 students to Regionals where several qualified for State! Due to a lack of funds only 2 students attended the State Conference in Las Vegas. At State one student earned a Thespian of the Year Award and a $500 College Scholarship.
As part of the competition process we chartered Wells High School as a member of the Educational Theater Association (EdTA), through which students are able to be inducted as Thespians into the International Thespian Society (ITS), which is the Honor Society for Drama and Theater Arts. Next year our hope is to take all of our club which currently has 27 members, to the Regional competition. At Regionals students will have the opportunity to compete and qualify for the State competition in acting, singing, writing, lighting, set design, costume design, and more! They will also attend workshops to learn more about their craft and others. Qualifiers at the State level have the opportunity to be scouted by colleges and compete at the International Thespian Society Festival.
Drama and Theater Arts provide the opportunity for students to learn real-world skills such as public speaking, management, leadership, design, construction, music, marketing, advertising, and more. Membership in ITS provides the opportunity for students to showcase their talents in one or more categories. Competing at the State level gives Seniors the ability to earn up to $2,000 in Scholarships.
There are many costs associated with running a theater program. We have to purchase the rights, scripts, and pay royalties on every production. There is also the cost of the materials for set and costume design. With the additional activities the Club will have the expenses of registration to Regionals, State, uniforms, Tech Conferences, induction fees, varsity letters, overnight stays for competitions, field trips to productions, and annual awards.
We have found that most of our students have not seen professional theater productions live. I believe providing this opportunity will inspire and motivate them. As such we already have backstage tours and production viewings scheduled for this year and next.
I understand that especially in a small town, most businesses in the community are asked several times a year for donations and it is a hard decision to choose which organizations to support. Please consider being a Friend of the Wells High School Drama Club for the 2023-24 season. Attached is a Sponsorship Form.
We appreciate all you do for our school and continued support of our students.
Thank you for your consideration,
Lyle & Carla Boner
